Dexter Cattle

Dexter Cattle are small cattle of Irish origin.

They are “beefy little milkers”, which means
they are pretty versatile and popular with hobby farmers who want a friendly cow that won’t tower over the children and can be handled without needing a truck or a cattle prod

bruce Watermark is a member of the Dexter Cattle Association of Australia and our animals are registered with DCA. In 2009 we used our black bull, Watermark Bounty with pleasing results. He was born in 2006,  which was a ‘B’ year, so all Dexters registered that year had to have names starting with ‘B’.  Eleanor is a very pretty 2009 heifer named for our grand daughter. Other E's have yet to be named. In 2009 we added  Billabong Yazoo (a red bull- doesn't everyone know that Yazoo is a boy's name?) and Billabong Yarrow, a dun cow. You can work out how old they are. ('X' and 'Z' presented naming challenges to breeders). This means we now have all the approved Dexter colours- black, red and dun in our expanding herd.

You can now order a side of Watermark Dexter from us. This breed make excellent eating and, because they're small animals, they won't overwhelm a domestic freezer. They are professionally killed at Dardanup Butchering Company and can be cut and packaged to your requirements. While you're here, you can 'meet the meat'! (or not... as you prefer) . We also have pure bred and grade animals for sale if you are in the market for a placid house cow and gentle lawn mower.
